You will Discover Fort Smith

Hiking in Wood Buffalo National Park

Tour Days: You will be in Fort Smith on days 4, 5, and 6 of the Bucketlist Tour.

We will travel to Wood Buffalo National Park near Fort Smith from Hay River on the Bucket List Coach. Along the way we will visit a large sink hole. There is a strong possibility of seeing Wood Bison (we call them buffalo) on either side of the road. Bears and other wildlife are also spotted occasionally.

We will take a side trip to the great Salt Plains, where you can hike down and walk barefoot on the salt. You might see signs of the Whooping Cranes that nest there. Although the chances of seeing them are much the same as winning the lottery, you will experience their nesting grounds. All this before arriving at Fort Smith!

In Fort Smith, we will have lunch, check in to the Pelican Rapids Inn, and head out to Wood Buffalo National Park, and a hike of your choice, with a local parks guide. We will have dinner in Pine Lake before we return to Fort Smith and stay overnight.

Breakfast is on your own

This morning we will tour the community of Fort Smith, including a look at the White Pelicans which nest at the Rapids of the Drowned. Parks Canada offers amazing films of the area and there are some great historic museums.
