You will Experience Fort Simpson

A Papal Site in Fort Simpson

Tour Days: You will be in Fort Simpson on days 7, 8, and 9 of the Bucketlist Tour.

Once we arrive in Fort Simpson we will check into our Band B’s (Mackenzie Rest and Deh Cho Suites) and enjoy a late snack. Continental Breakfast is provided by your B & B. We are scheduled to fly with South Nahanni Airways on their Twin Otter float plane to visit the world’s first designated world heritage site, the Nahanni National Park. We will fly above the Nahanni River and see some impressive canyons. Compared with the Grand Canyon, they are much smaller in width and dimension, but are only about 400 meters less in depth. We will view tufta mounds, unique mountain ranges where you can imagine seeing dinosaurs roam. We will land on the Nahanni River above Virginia Falls (narrower than Niagara but twice the height), and take a comfortable boardwalk for first hand viewing, while we enjoy lunch. Following our falls visit we head back on our plane to Little Doctor Lake. We land on a glacier lake for a spectacular moment. Then we head back to Fort Simpson where we will dine at the Mackenzie Rest and our guides will be invited to join us.

Note: This tour is highly weather dependant. If necessary we can re-schedule it.

Continental breakfast is provided by your B & B.
Today we venture out by boat for a half day tour for a view of the spectacular land. A local guide
from Shehtah Adventures will take us into the wilderness and share some cultural history today.
We will enjoy a shore lunch and view spectacular sites. Make sure you bring your camera.
This evening we will dine in a local home. This day we will enjoy some free time. This is also to be considered our “buffer day”.

The air and boat trip are extremely weather dependant, so we have this last day to offer flexibility in case we are unable to take our trips as scheduled.

This afternoon you will take a scheduled flight on First Air back to Yellowknife.
